Summary:
In patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection combined with acupotomy release of the transverse carpal ligament significantly improved symptom relief and functional recovery compared to corticosteroid injection alone, though it was associated with no reported complications.
| PICO | Description |
|---|---|
| Population | Patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS); 68 participants randomly assigned and treated from January 2023 to June 2024. |
| Intervention | Ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection combined with acupotomy release of the transverse carpal ligament (Group A). |
| Comparison | Ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection alone (Group B). |
| Outcome | Group A showed significantly better symptom severity (BCTQ-S) and function (BCTQ-F) scores at 1 and 3 months post-treatment (P<0.05). Additionally, ultrasound showed greater improvement in cross-sectional area and flattening ratio of the median nerve at 3 months (P=0.009 and P=0.038, respectively). No complications were reported in either group. |
